It's a Girl!

Riley Elizabeth Olson was born Monday, 9/24. She weighed in at 7lbs. 13oz. and she's 20" tall. She gorgeous, of course...and I think she looks a lot like Avery as a newborn. Jenni had an appt. to get induced Monday morning. They started the IV Pitocin at 9:45am and Riley headed on out at 12:18pm, everything happend fast. We came home from the hospital today, around 3pm...which is nice, the chairs at home are far more comfortable than the hospital variety.

New field and first win for the Eagles

Last night we went to the ribbon cutting of the brand new football field at Harker. It is pretty unbelievable that this field was just an idea only a year ago and now it is here, finished and beautiful. It was so nice to go to a home game at Harker. Both the soccer team and the football team won so hopefully the field will continue to bring good luck.

Wait Listed

As most know, I began my college career as a Nursing major. I left Biola and the nursing program in the Fall of 1998. I completed my degree in Kinesiology at CSU Sacramento, but never really knew what I wanted to do with it. I was directed into teaching, which I have enjoyed for the past 5 years, but have always felt a twinge of regret not finishing my nursing degree, especially after giving birth to Avery and feeling like labor and delivery nursing was what I really wanted to be doing. Now that I am a stay at home mom, I have been pondering what it is I want to do when I go back to work after the kids are ready for school. I decided to act on my growing desire to go back and complete my nursing degree. I applied to Cabrillo College's Nursing Program. I received a letter of acceptance today and now the wait begins. I knew when I applied that the wait list was 2-3 years long. That should be perfect timing for me and the kiddies. Avery will be starting Kindergarten and the other one will be ready for preschool. Hopefully, it will not be that long of a wait...I will receive a wait list statement and my placement in October. I am excited to see what happens in the future!

Giants Game

Last Sunday Jaron and Avery headed up to SF to meet Grams and Papa for a Giants Game. They took the train and then enjoyed a good game...Giants won!

Avery is getting ready for the transition to a big girl twin bed. We bought a couple things, new duvet cover and canopy, for when her bedroom set arrives. She loves the canopy and now calls her bed "The Princess Bed". I am hoping it makes her want to sleep in her bed more!

Tunnel Fun

Avery's new favorite thing is building tunnels and caves. She loves to pretend she is hiding from "monsters". She has even asked to start napping in her cave.

35 Weeks

I am 35 weeks and 1 day so I thought I would post a pic of my huge belly. I also chopped off about 12 inches of hair on Friday, of which I am donating to Locks of Love. I have not had a real haircut since right after Avery was born so I thought it was about time for a change.

The last 2 weeks

Well, not much has been happening here in the Olson house, but I thought I would post a few tidbits of news. After my experience in the hospital with pre-term labor, everything has been fine. I have had no contractions and I am still only dilated to 1 and less effaced than before. All good news my doctor says. I just passed 35 weeks yesterday and am out of any danger zone so I was able to stop my meds and pick up with normal activity. Thank goodness! I am not one for sitting still so I am up on my feet once again. Now that all of that has happened, I am anxious for this baby to arrive. It is killing me not knowing if it is a boy or girl and as cute as Avery's nickname "burrito" is, I am ready to start calling him/her by his/her real name. (Yes, we are keeping those a secret too!)

I needed something to keep my mind off of having the baby so I finally got my sewing machine out and started using up all my fabrics. I made 6 bags, one is not quite finished though. I made 2 trick or treat bags for my neice and nephew, a new diaper bag for me (the green paisley) and 3 others I have no idea what to do with. I will probably save them for gifts I suppose. I also jazzed up some burp cloths for the new kid. It is fun to finally have the time to make some fun stuff again.

Jaron is back in full swing at Harker as football has started. He worked over 60 hours this week. Needlesss to say, he is exhausted. He also taught 2 CPR classes on top of everything else. This week should be a little better as the volleyball team is in Hawaii, so he does not have to go in as early as he did this last week.

Avery is active as ever and has been having fun despite the fact her mom could not do much with her these past 2 weeks. One of her favorite things is making caves and tunnels with blankets and pillows. She has developed quite the imagination. I love watching her!

Camping in San Simeon

We headed out to the beach for a fun two nights of camping with the Gonzalez fam. San Simeon is located on the coast near Cambria. The weather was exactly what I was hoping for. It was cool and overcast...low 60's which was a nice change from our hot weather lately. On Sunday, it cleared up and was actually sunny so we headed out for some fun time at the beach. Jaron even got in the ocean and body surfed a bit. I thought he was crazy! Avery and Bella hit it off once again and had a great time trying to catch birds and squirrels. We drove home up Hwy 1 and enjoyed beautiful ocean views most of the way home. Great fun!

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

Last Wednesday, Avery and I headed up to Pittsburg to visit with Grams and Papa. Jaron went on an adventure of his own...camping and fishing with our friend Matt.
On Thursday, Grams, Avery and I went to Vallejo to what used to be called Marine World and is now Discovery Kingdom. We had a great time seeing all the animals and going on rides. Well, Grams and Avery went on the rides as I was not permitted to go on anything since I am pregnant. It was a little chilly in the morning, but once the fog lifted it was a beautiful day. We spent about 4 1/2 hours or so exploring. We saw the Dolphin show, which was great and saw many fun animals...giraffes, lions, elephants etc... Avery was too scared to pet or ride on the elephant so maybe next time. By the end of the day she was pooped. Both nights at Grams and Papa's she told me around 8:30 she was ready for bed and went down willingly. It was great! Thanks to Grams and Papa for a fun 2 days!

Justin's wedding

Today my good friend Justin got married. I have known Justin since we were infants eating graham crackers in the church nursery. Avery was the flower girl and did a great job. She made it all the way down the aisle throwing her petals as she walked. Though when she got to the end, she did not want to stop and stood there dropping petals until her basket was completely empty. The ceremony was beautiful. There was a quick reception at the church then a smaller more intimate reception at Jen's (the bride) parents' house in Gilroy.
It was so fun to see people I have not seen in a long time. Our friend Josh came down from Canada...the 3 J's together again! We have all known each other forever and have so many fun stories. What a fun trip down memory lane.

Avery fell in love with the ring bearer, Andrew, my friend David's little boy. They were so cute together and had fun chasing and hugging eachother all day long.
